Built from Nothing, Shaped by EverythingGrowing up with only a few toys, Reen learned to build his own from scraps and found objects. Those quiet afternoons, guided by imagination and whatever he could gather, became his earliest lessons in storytelling and character-making. What began as a way to fill the silence shaped an artist who would later build entire worlds from memory, emotion, and the truths written across a face.
From these early experiments emerged a figure once overlooked in a corporate setting but impossible to ignore in his personal work. Ohlala's expressive eyes and canvas-covered head became his way of telling stories without words, embodying the childhood instincts that taught him to invent rather than wait. It was the moment his creations began to take on lives of their own.
These narratives soon found their way into galleries, reaching audiences across Asia, the United States, and Europe through solo shows, group exhibitions, and major art fairs. Each piece carried fragments of his life, resonating beyond borders and proving that stories rooted in personal truth can speak to anyone. Yet Reen has never been one to stay still, always searching for the next form, the next story, the next breakthrough. His work continues to evolve, shaped not only by where he began, but by the courage to keep moving toward what has yet to be created.
Muscle Land, Strength in SensitivityThis Muscle Land edition takes its name from a playful word twist on the Filipino term maselan, which means sensitive. First exhibited at Vinyl on Vinyl, the show explored how real strength is not only physical, but also found in understanding and managing one's own emotions. That idea carries through the deck's presentation, beginning with a wraparound tuck box featuring Reen's Reality Bites artwork. The box is finished with a subtle dimpled texture reminiscent of canvas, grounding it in the tactile qualities of Reen's original pieces.
The card back continues this exploration of emotional honesty through an original artwork rendered in varying shades of gray from the Ohlala universe. Expressive eyes and a pair of lips anchor the design, symbolizing how we see, feel, and communicate the stories we live with. Together, these elements create a visual language that reflects the core of Muscle Land, a balance of vulnerability and strength captured in Reen's signature style.
Drawn From Memory, Brought to LifeEvery card in the deck features a different original artwork, each one rooted in Reen's childhood stories, lived experiences, and the emotions that shaped his creative language. The court cards highlight some of his most iconic figures, with characters like Mother appearing as queens, alongside familiar faces such as Ohlala, Duge, Yessir, Tori, and many more from Reen's ever-growing universe.
The numbered cards carry this narrative forward, with several illustrations thoughtfully integrating the pips into the artwork itself, blending form and function into a single visual story. Each card bursts with color and vibrancy, guided by suit-specific tones that give the deck its dynamic, shifting moods.
From aces to kings, jokers to extra cards, the collection becomes a pocket-sized gallery of Reen's world, filled with characters, symbols, and moments that invite you to pause, look closer, and uncover the memories drawn into every line.
